Profile Picture Resizer
A free profile picture resizer that crops and exports your photo for LinkedIn (400×400), X (400×400), Instagram (320×320), Facebook (320×320), GitHub (460×460), YouTube (800×800), TikTok and Pinterest — all in your browser. No upload, no signup, no watermark.
Why the size matters
Every social platform downscales your profile photo to a small displayed crop (320 px on Instagram, 400 px on LinkedIn and X, 460 px on GitHub, 800 px on YouTube), then re-encodes it as a compressed JPG. Upload below the recommended size and the platform stretches the photo, which is what makes a previously-fine photo look soft and grainy on the profile page. Upload above it and the platform downscales, which is fine — but you also miss any retina benefit you could have gotten by serving the 2× size some clients use.
What the table actually contains
The platform-specs sidebar pulls from each platform's own help center, last verified on 2026-05-21. The numbers vary platform to platform because each one decides on its own avatar geometry — LinkedIn keeps a generous 400-pixel circle for desktop hover cards, Instagram's 320-pixel circle reflects its mobile-first design, GitHub's 460 lines up with its desktop sidebar UI, and YouTube's 800 is sized for channel-page hero displays.
Recommended export sizes by platform

- X (Twitter): 400×400 px (circle), up to 2 MB, JPG / PNG / GIF accepted.

- Facebook: 320×320 px (circle), up to 4 MB, JPG / PNG accepted.
- GitHub: 460×460 px (circle), up to 1 MB, JPG / PNG / GIF accepted.
- YouTube: 800×800 px (circle), up to 4 MB, JPG / PNG accepted.
- TikTok: 200×200 px (circle), up to 8 MB, JPG / PNG accepted.

How this tool is built
The image is loaded into an in-memory HTMLImageElement, drawn into a 360-pixel preview canvas, and re-drawn into a higher-resolution output canvas when you click download. The two-step scaling preserves sharpness on downscales over 2×. Nothing touches a server. You can close the tab mid-edit and no trace of the image survives.
When this tool is not enough
If your source photo is low-light, blurry, or just dated, no amount of cropping will fix it — that's a different problem. Generate a fresh AI headshot in the Studio: one selfie in, three studio-quality headshots out in about 60 seconds. Free, no signup, no watermark on the Studio Session tier.
Questions, answered
Profile Picture Resizer — frequently asked questions
What is the best profile picture size for LinkedIn in 2026?
LinkedIn recommends 400×400 pixels, with a minimum of 268×268. Anything larger than 400 is downscaled — 800×800 is a safe retina upload. Maximum file size is 8 MB and formats are JPG and PNG.
What size is an X / Twitter profile picture?
X uses 400×400 pixels with a 200×200 minimum. The profile photo is cropped to a circle. File cap is 2 MB. Header photos are separate at 1500×500.
What size is an Instagram profile picture?
Instagram displays profile photos at 320×320 in a circle. Upload at 320 or higher — Instagram will downscale to fit but never upscale below 110×110.
What size should a GitHub avatar be?
GitHub recommends 460×460 pixels with a 1 MB file size cap. The avatar displays as a circle on github.com but is exposed as a square in the API for app integrations.
Why is my profile photo blurry after uploading?
Three usual causes: (1) you uploaded below the recommended size and the platform stretched it, (2) the file got JPEG-recompressed during upload, or (3) the photo was originally low-resolution. Upload the largest version you have, or run the image upscaler first.
Does this tool upload my photo anywhere?
No. Every operation runs in your browser using the Canvas API. The image bytes never leave your device. There is no signup, no account, and no watermark.
Can I use a circular PNG with transparency?
Most platforms accept PNG but then re-export it as JPG without transparency. For a transparent-circle avatar (email signatures, Slack, Notion) use the Circle Cropper tool instead.
Why do you offer two sizes (recommended and retina)?
Modern displays double the pixel density. The platform-recommended size looks fine on standard screens; the 2× retina version stays sharp on Apple Studio Displays, MacBook Retina, iPhones, and 4K monitors.
