Crop any photo into a perfect transparent circle PNG, sized for avatars (256, 400, 512, 800, or 1024 px). Runs in your browser, exports anti-aliased PNG, and works on phones. Useful for email signatures, Slack, Notion, and team-page avatars.

Why a transparent circle PNG matters

Slack, Notion, Linear, Discord, GitHub, modern email clients, and most team-page renderers display avatars in a circle. If you upload a square photo, the platform clips it to a circle and stores the original — fine. But for places that need a true transparent circle (custom Markdown, signature blocks, Notion icon, social-card OG images), you need a PNG with the corners cut out. That's what this tool produces.

Output sizes — which to pick

  • 256 px: Email signature, Discord, Slack hover.
  • 400 px: LinkedIn profile photo (uploaded as JPG, but useful for a transparent OG card).
  • 512 px: Slack default upload, Notion icon.
  • 800 px: Retina sharpness on most modern displays.
  • 1024 px: High-quality print, team-page hero shots, podcast cover art.

Questions, answered

Circle Cropper — frequently asked questions

What size should my Slack avatar be?

Slack uploads to 512×512 by default and displays at 36-72 px. 512 is the safe upload size; 1024 if you want retina sharpness on the team-page hover state.

Can I use the PNG on a dark background?

Yes — the export is transparent, so the dark theme of Slack, Notion, Linear, Discord, or your email client shows through the corners of the square that surrounds the circle.

Does this tool work for non-headshots?

Yes. It's a generic circular crop with transparency — works for product photos, logos, illustrations, anything. The default framing centers on the canvas; drag to reposition.

Why PNG instead of JPG?

JPG doesn't support transparency. The corners of the square would be filled with white (or another color), which would look wrong on a dark theme. PNG preserves alpha cleanly.

Does this upload my photo anywhere?

No. The crop runs entirely in your browser with the Canvas API and the clip method. Nothing leaves your device.
