Pakistan transitioned to the e-Passport (biometric chip) in 2022, replacing the older Machine-Readable Passport (MRP). The photo specification remained at 35 × 45 mm with a pure white background — ICAO-compliant and matching most Asian and Middle Eastern countries.

Applications run through the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports (DGIP) with online application initiation at dgip.gov.pk. Biometric capture and photo verification happen at DGIP regional offices in person.
