Quick answer
A good AI headshot prompt for a woman has two parts: an identity lock that tells the model to keep your face, skin, hair and age exactly, and a look description covering outfit, backdrop, light, lens and expression. Without the lock, most image models drift toward a smoother, younger, more made up face. Below are twelve prompts, each run on the same selfie, with the real result next to it. Copy the lock line into any prompt you write.

AI Headshot Prompts for Women: 12 Copy and Paste Prompts, Each Tested With the Result Shown
Most headshot prompts online were written with a man in mind and then reused for everyone. They ask for "a professional headshot in a navy suit" and leave the model to fill in the rest, and what it fills in for women is usually a smoother, younger, more made up face. This page fixes both problems: the prompts were written for women, and each one was tested on the same selfie, so you can see exactly what it produces.
How these were tested
- One selfie. A fictional woman's phone selfie in a kitchen, the same one used across our headshots for women guide.
- One model. Google's Gemini 3 Pro Image, through the Gemini API, with the selfie attached and the prompt pasted exactly as printed below.
- No edits. The images below are the outputs, resized for the web, with no retouching.
The prompts also work in other image models that accept a reference photo; results will vary.
The identity lock: the line that matters most
Every prompt below starts with the same sentence. Copy it into any prompt you write:
Why it matters: image models carry a strong idea of what a "professional woman" looks like, assembled from retouched stock and beauty imagery. Ask for a headshot without a lock and the model drifts toward that idea. The lock names the drift (slimming, smoothing, de-aging, beautifying) and forbids it. It is also the safer choice: in a field experiment of 5,312 CVs, women whose CV carried a glamorous photo got fewer callbacks than women with no photo, so a drifted face is a risk as well as a fake.
The anatomy of a good look description
| Part | What to say | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Outfit | Garment, color, one accessory at most | Cream tailored blazer over a camel knit, small gold studs |
| Backdrop | Color and type | Warm cream seamless studio backdrop |
| Light | Size, direction, quality | One large soft light from the front, slightly above eye level |
| Lens and framing | Focal length and crop | 85mm lens, chest up |
| Expression and pose | Smile type, angle | Shoulders turned slightly, soft open smile |
Then end with the quality line: photorealistic, real skin texture, no airbrushing, no hands visible, no text. Hands are excluded because they are still where generated portraits fail most visibly.

Common prompt mistakes and the fix
| Mistake | What happens | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| "Make me look professional" | The model guesses, usually navy suit on grey, often with a smoothed face | Name the outfit, backdrop and light |
| "Beautiful", "flawless", "perfect skin" | Beauty drift: lashes, contour, plastic skin | Ask for real skin texture and no airbrushing |
| Naming a celebrity or photographer | Inconsistent results and possible rights problems | Describe the light and mood instead |
| Asking for hands | Extra or fused fingers | Say no hands visible, or crop chest up |
| No mention of hair | Curls loosened, grey hair colored, hijab restyled | Say same hair color, length and texture; mention any head covering |
| Ten details at once | The model drops some at random | Five parts: outfit, backdrop, light, lens, expression |
Adapting a prompt to you
- Curly or coily hair: add "keep my natural curls exactly, same pattern, volume and shape, do not straighten". See AI headshots for curly hair.
- Hijab: add "keep my hijab exactly as worn: same color, wrap and full coverage of hair, ears and neck". See AI headshots with hijab.
- Glasses: add "keep my glasses exactly, no glare on the lenses, eyes clearly visible".
- Over 50: add "keep my grey hair and natural lines, do not de-age". See headshots for women over 50.
The bottom line
Start every prompt with the identity lock, describe the look in five parts, and finish with the quality line. Pick from the twelve above by job: soft studio or window light for most roles, navy on grey or executive charcoal for conservative fields, jewel tone for LinkedIn. If you would rather not write prompts at all, every look here is a ready style in our studio with the lock built in.
FAQ
What is the best AI prompt for a professional headshot for a woman? Start with an identity lock (keep my face, skin, hair and age exactly; do not slim, smooth, de-age or beautify), then describe the outfit, backdrop, light, lens and expression. The soft studio cream prompt above is the most versatile starting point.
Why do AI headshots make women look different? Image models learned from large sets of retouched images, so without instructions they pull faces toward a smoother, younger, more made up average. An explicit identity lock in the prompt counters that drift.
Do these prompts work in ChatGPT or other tools? They were tested in Google's Gemini 3 Pro Image with a reference photo. They are written in plain language and work in other image models that accept a photo, though results vary between models.
How do I stop an AI from straightening my curls? Add a hair line to the prompt: keep my natural curls exactly, same pattern, volume and shape, do not straighten. Shoot the selfie with your whole hair shape in frame and soft front light.
Should I mention makeup in the prompt? Usually not. Upload a selfie with your normal daytime makeup and the lock keeps it. Asking for makeup tends to trigger beauty drift: lashes, contour and smoothed skin.
Why do the prompts say no hands visible? Generated hands still fail often, with extra or fused fingers. Cropping chest up with no hands avoids the problem entirely.
Can I use these AI headshots on LinkedIn? Yes, if the result looks like you. Check the likeness carefully and reject any result that changes your features, hair or age.

An AI headshot prompt for women works best when it starts with an identity lock, telling the model to keep the face, skin texture, hair and age exactly and not to slim, smooth, de-age or beautify, followed by the outfit, backdrop, light, lens and expression.
